| Discovery of a New Nation: Native Nations and the Beginning of the United States: 1100-1860 |
Native history predates 1492. Native peoples have been on the North American continent for centuries before colonization began. Learn about U.S. History from the perspective of Native Americans. From the formation of the Iroquois Confederacy to landing on Plymouth Rock and the Lost Colony of Roanoke to the tribes that participated in the American Revolution and the move westward, discover the creation of the treaties between the United States and Native Nations. Finally, learn about the beginning of the end for Native Nations with the Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears. This lecture begins in the 1100s and ends just before the Civil War in 1860.
Heather Bruegl, inspired by a trip to Wounded Knee, South Dakota, quickly developed a passion for Native American History. Curiosity for her own heritage led her to Wisconsin, where she has researched the history of the Native American tribes of that region. Heather is a graduate of Madonna University of Michigan and holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in U.S. History. She currently travels and lectures on Native American history, including policy and activism.
The Library intends to provide a live stream of this event pending the presenter's permission. Please check back closer to the event for additional updates.

| Emerging Writers Workshop | Raising the Stakes |
Protagonists always want something, and the struggle to achieve their goal gives the story stakes. But is there enough at stake in your story, and are your characters cooperating with the great plot you’ve laid out for them? In this workshop, Alex Kourvo and Bethany Neal will teach you how to raise the stakes and keep your readers riveted until the very last page.
This event is part of the monthly Emerging Writers Workshops, which offer support, learning, and advice for local authors. Each month, two weeks after the workshop, there is a meet-up where the instructors are available to review samples of your work and offer advice and assistance in a casual, supportive atmosphere.
Do you have a completed manuscript? Consider submitting it to the library's imprint, Fifth Avenue Press.

| Exhibit | Laomagination: Refugee Re/creation |
Michigan's Southeast Asian community recently marked the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War and the Laotian Civil War. As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding, this exhibition invites an open conversation among refugees, immigrants, and neighbors about what it means to rebuild across generations.
Reflecting on journeys shaped by political transformation, the exhibit considers how young people’s voices belong in these ongoing conversations about identity, memory, and belonging. Through the themes of windows, mirrors, and sliding doors, it explores representation in children’s literature, games, and toys: the objects that helped shape how Lao communities saw themselves, who they believed they could become, and what is now being passed to the next generation after their first fifty years in America.
Featuring approximately 100 prints, artifacts, photographs, rare books, and magazines spanning more than a century of Lao history, and highlighting modern artworks, the pieces examine how Lao refugees recreated homes, traditions, and institutions lost in diaspora while imagining futures in which they could see themselves.

| Exhibit | Our Precious Planet by the Faculty Women's Club |
This group exhibit features the collected works of the Painting Section of the University of Michigan’s Faculty Women’s Club (FWC) covering a large variety of styles and media.
The FWC is a cross campus organization, offering members acquaintance and fellowship. The members of the Painting Section have been “painting” together regularly since 1929, creating award-winning pieces in a wide variety of media, and learning from one another at weekly gatherings in their homes. Sharing experiences with new media, critiquing one another’s work, and encouraging exploration in artistic expression are the basic elements of their continuing study of the visual arts as a group. Shows of their works have been displayed for the past 44 years at venues in the greater Ann Arbor area, including art fairs, art galleries, banks, churches, and libraries.
The members of this group strive to enrich the cultural life of the Ann Arbor area by raising awareness of, and by encouraging active participation in, the visual arts.

| MEETUP: Connectors Club: The Next Conversation Book Club |
## 📘 The Next Conversation Book Club
*A 12-Week Connectors Club Series*
We’re shifting gears for the next 12 weeks — and going deeper.
Join us for **The Next Conversation Book Club**, built around *The Next Conversation* by Jefferson Fisher\* — a powerful guide to mastering the conversations that shape your business, leadership, and relationships.
Here’s what makes this different:
This is **not** transactional networking.
This is **not** a room full of elevator pitches.
At Connectors Club, professional relationships evolve into meaningful friendships. We encourage you. We challenge you when needed. We sharpen each other through different perspectives.
Each week, we’ll cover one chapter and explore how it applies to:
* Business conversations
* Leadership and influence
* Negotiation and conflict
* Personal growth
If you’re an entrepreneur, solopreneur, independent contractor, new in town, or navigating career transition — this series will feel like your personal advisory board.
### Why start at the beginning?
Because this is a journey. The conversations will build. The trust will deepen. The shared language will grow.
### Can you jump in mid-series?
Absolutely. We are informal and welcoming. Join anytime.
But if you’ve been waiting for the right moment to plug into Connectors Club — this is it.
This may very well be the most valuable book you read in 2026.
Different perspectives. Better thinking. Stronger conversations.
Let’s make the next one count.
— Brian

| MEETUP: Southeast Michigan Toastmasters - District 28: Huron Valley Toastmasters |
**Meeting Information:**
* We meet on Tuesdays from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.
* This is a hybrid club, with Zoom available every week and in-person meetings available on the second and fourth Tuesdays. The Zoom link can be found on our club website: [Huron Valley Toastmasters Club, Ann Arbor](https://1909.toastmastersclubs.org/)
* If you would like to attend in person, you can find us in Washtenaw Community College's Business Education Building (Room 158)
**About Huron Valley Toastmasters**
Huron Valley Toastmasters is a small (\~8-12 people per meeting is fairly common), welcoming club that strikes a balance when it comes to experienced Toastmasters and new members. Some Huron Valley Toastmasters have been here for decades, while others have only recently started their Toastmaster journey.
Our club members also come from many different backgrounds. We have university professors, entrepreneurs, volunteers (one of which was in the Peace Corps!), writers, world travelers, and more!
**What makes Huron Valley Toastmasters so special?**
* **Hybrid setup.** We allow for virtual meetings every week, but on the second and fourth Tuesdays, we also allow for a hybrid structure. Members and guests have the opportunity to build proficiency with both meeting contexts.
* **Ample opportunity for speaking.** Given that we are a small but dynamic club, members and guests will get plenty of opportunities to speak in a friendly, supportive environment.
* **Supportive club personality.** If you ever have a question or need assistance, our members are ready to jump in and give you a hand. This is an excellent opportunity to work on skills such as leadership, teamwork, English, and comfort with public speaking.
**Here is the structure of a typical Huron Valley Toastmasters meeting:**
* Success stories and gratitudes (we enjoy starting out on a positive note! There's also an opportunity for introductions if there are guests)
* Team Introductions (Laughmaster, Tipmaster, Timer, and Grammarian/Ah-Ha Counter)
* Speeches (1 - 2 speeches each meeting)
* Speech evaluations (we call this the "gift" portion of the meeting, because we view evaluations as gifts!)
* Tabletopics (a 1-2 minute impromptu speaking opportunity - stories and creativity are encouraged!)
* Grammarian/Ah-Ha Counter Report (evaluates the club's usage of the English language, also highlighting funny, clever, or interesting phrases)
* General Evaluator Report (evaluates the club meeting overall)
* Toastmasters Spotlight (any upcoming Toastmasters opportunities)
* Closing (including some words of inspiration!)
If you are interested in Huron Valley Toastmasters, we'd love for you to visit! Please refer to our club website for more information: [Huron Valley Toastmasters Club, Ann Arbor](https://1909.toastmastersclubs.org/)

| MEETUP: Ypsi Improv: Improv Skills & Games, In Person! |
As we conduct these in person Improv sessions our first priority is keeping everyone safe.
A close second is helping people find plentiful reasons to laugh, learn, and grow in these interesting times.
**Quick safety blurb:**
Covid-19 vaccination is strongly recommended for attendees, but no longer required.
Face masks will be available, to be used at each attendee’s discretion.
**Improv session details:**
We will meet in person and play improv games in a fun, relaxed, and judgment free setting.
People of all backgrounds and experience levels, especially little/no experience, are welcome!
Ages 16+ are recommended, as our humor can get adult, blue, explicit, etc.
Parents of younger kiddos who want to know more are encouraged to attend for yourselves and then make a decision, as you know your kids best.
We will start with a quick chat about the spirit of improv, an introduction to the fundamentals of improv, and then warm up both body and mind with exercises practicing improv principles.
We will then play games to help learn each other’s names, games to be intentionally silly, large group games, and explore smaller scale scene work; all while making sure that everyone gets an enjoyable amount of “stage” time.
We will wind down with a final group game and end with a round table for feedback on the session, announcement of upcoming events, and/or creative projects.
Join us to improve your ability to be in the moment, learn more about improvisation, let your creativity come out to play, and/or just have fun in what some of our attendees like to call your “Weekly weird!”
Cost is $8 to play and free to watch.
All fees will go towards the rental of the space.
Can be paid in cash at the venue or electronically via:

| Fore-Site (Phase 2): The Stamps Gallery Pillar Project |
From September 2025 through November 2026, Stamps Gallery is partnering in a curatorial collaboration with two Ypsilanti-based, artist-run project spaces led by Stamps alumni: C.Y.N.K. Studios, directed by Sally Clegg (Lecturer III and Student Exhibition Coordinator, MFA ’20) and Abhishek Narula (MFA ’20); and Sometimes Space, directed by Nathan Byrne (Lecturer I, MFA ’21). Each space hosts dozens of artists annually for exhibitions, performances, and events, fostering experimental work and building community. For this project, Byrne, Clegg, and Narula have been commissioned to reimagine the pillars on Division Street that flank the gallery. In response, they’ve curated six artists to create new work for the pillars over three cycles:
Phase 1 (September 12 - December 12) artists: Amelia Burns (Cranbrook MFA ’23) and Erin McKenna (MFA ’20)
Phase 2 (January 12 - August 12) artists: Sally Clegg (MFA ’20) and Kim Karlsrud (MFA ’20)
Phase 3 (September 12 - November 12) artists: Abhishek Narula (MFA ’20) and Nathan Byrne (MFA ’21)
Phase 2 Curatorial Statement
Curated by Sometimes Space: Sally Clegg (entry pillar)
Curated by CYNK Studios: Kim Karlsrud (courtyard pillar)
Artists Sally Clegg and Kim Karlsrud wrap the Division Street pillars in highly site-specific ornament unearthed from the overlooked margins of Ann Arbor. On the Courtyard pillar, Karlsrud scales up photographs of objects found in liminal spaces surrounding campus buildings on Green Road, which the artist has encrusted in road salt. On the entryway pillar, Clegg zooms in on tiny fragments of found material from UMich’s famous “rock” to celebrate nearly seven decades of student art and activism. Both artists uplift aggregate of local human activity to reveal tiny worlds of found form.
Sally Clegg: Sentimentary Rock
Sentimentary Rock is a composition of paint slag collected from the UMich rock monument at the corner of Washtenaw Avenue and Hill Street. This colorful composite material has been accumulating at the base of the iconic limestone boulder since the mid 1950’s, when students began a tradition of painting it in acts of protest, creativity, and ritual, sometimes multiple times per week. Akin to byproducts of industry such as “Fordite” (collectable chunks of automotive overspray sometimes called ‘Detroit agate’), Sentimentary Rock includes thousands of layers, each dripped from a palimpsestic public proclamation. When processed, sculpted, sealed, assembled, and macro-photographed, the result is this enlarged array of tiny gems, intended to celebrate the indissoluble student voice.
Kim Karlsrud: What Amasses
What Amasses is an assemblage of everyday found objects collected within the Miller Creek watershed, an urbanized drainage system that encompasses much of the city of Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan campus. Selected objects were immersed in a road salt solution, allowing delicate crystalline formations to emerge. Road salt is a common material input into these hydrological networks during the winter months and exists in multiple states of refinement, expression, coherence, and fragmentation. Each object was then arranged, photographed, and enlarged to recontextualize these materials in ways that invite deeper reflections on how infrastructure and human agency blur notions of the natural and the artificial.

Sally Clegg
Sally Clegg is an artist and educator from Pelham, Massachusetts. Her studio practice is rooted in sculpture and expanded printmaking, stemming from a fascination with human efforts to make meaning from our relationships to objects. Clegg integrates history, popular culture, literature and philosophy as material for artmaking, leveraging personal anecdote and humor to reveal the complexity, absurdity, and theoretical richness at play in our connections to things and to ourselves.
Clegg holds an MFA in Art from The University of Michigan Stamps School of Art & Design, and a BA in Art & English from Goucher College. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, and her work can be found in permanent collections at Yale University, The New York Public Library, and elsewhere. Her artwork and writing has appeared in ASAP/Journal, BOMB Magazine, Sculpture Magazine, and Hyperallergic. She is a lecturer in Art & Design at the University of Michigan. Website / Instagram
Kim Karlsrud
Kim Karlsrud is the co-founder of Commonstudio, a collaborative creative practice that develops socio-ecological and spatial interventions, installations, and initiatives working with and within urban landscapes.

Her work explores the space between art and design, and is grounded in the concept of the “commons,” that which is shared, as well as that which is ordinary, banal, and commonplace.

| MEETUP: IT in the D: IT Networking @ HOMES Brewery Ann Arbor |
***The Ann Arbor chapter returns!***
No agenda. No speakers. No cover charge. Ever. Just networking with IT professionals. Plain and simple.
IT in The D was started by IT professionals for IT professionals. We didn’t like any other group out there, so we started our own! At our events, you might meet tech recruiters, developers, salespeople, network admins, web designers, or senior-level management.
Come on out, bring some business cards (or don’t—it’s OK) and meet some like-minded people in the Metro Detroit area. You could meet a life-long friend, a new business partner, or no one at all… it’s what you make of them that makes these events great.
*We are networking Detroit one beer at a time.*

| MEETUP: Ann Arbor Community - Locals, Internationals & New in Town: 🎲🍹🤝 Board Games & Beverages at Bløm - A Play with Friends Social |
Tonight's the night. And it's going to happen again and again. Has to happen. Nice night... game night, that is.
Bløm Meadworks for game night. where we socialize and meet old friends and make new friends. Sprinkled liberally with playing games and drinking beverages.
Hope you will join us. And if you are not familiar with the games, worry not. We aren't either. ;) We will figure them out together.
**A bit about this week's place**
[Bløm Meadworks](https://www.drinkblom.com/) is a bar that wears a cafe like a dress or a cafe that likes to drink or something like that. They have a very pleasant setting and staff, they offer mead and cider for those that drink and non-alcoholic drinks for those that don't. The non-alcoholic drinks include some very nice in-house brewed vinegar sodas. Yes I know it sounds crazy but they are super delicious. Don't let the vinegar dissuade you.
And yes board games.... Lots and lots of board games.
**Bonus: Game Party**
Wednesdays is a big game night at Bløm so friendly people looking for a game may join our table. More the merrier. So don't be surprised. It's the party vibe. A very chill nerdy party!
**Parking**
Street parking is free after 6PM. Here is a [map of the parking lots and structures](https://maps.app.goo.gl/hSgq3bv93KxMCQCBA). Structures are cheaper than lots. Fourth and Washington structure is right next door.

| MEETUP: Enlightened Soul Meetup: Elevate Your Mediumship |
**Elevate Your Mediumship:**
4-Week Level III Practice & Coaching Series with Medium Tim Thomas
*Previous mediumship study required or facilitator permission*
**
**4 Wednesdays**, 6:30–9:00pm
June 3–24, 2026
Strengthen and lift your evidence-based mediumship through four weeks of hands‑on practice, personal coaching, and confidence‑building development with Medium Tim Thomas.
This Level III series is designed for students who already have the foundational skills of mediumship and are ready to deepen their clarity, consistency, and trust in the spirit world. You’ll work through focused 1‑on‑1 and group practices, real‑time feedback, and personalized guidance that supports your growth every step of the way.
Over the four weeks, we’ll refine your connection, strengthen your trust, and help you develop the kind of reliable evidential mediumship that shifts from “I hope this works” to “I know I can do this.” every time. You’ll learn to recognize your unique voice, open your link with more ease, and bring through information with greater confidence and accuracy.
You’ll receive gentle, supportive guidance — paired with honest, practical feedback that helps you break through blocks, enhance what’s already working, and elevate the areas that need refinement. After years of teaching students at every level, I know the common challenges, why they show up, and how to move past them with clarity and confidence.
**Cost:** $140
*Space is limited to 9 students - register early to claim your spot.*

| MEETUP: The Delian Club: Book Club: The Remains of the Day |
Join us for our monthly Delian Book Club meeting, hosted by Gina and Avery. This meeting will take place during our usual discussion night time at the First Congregational Church in Ann Arbor.
Today, please join us to discuss *The Remains of the Day* by Kazuo Ishiguro.
Please start your contribution to the discussion by referring to the sections which were relevant to you and, to the extent you are comfortable, share why you relate.
This book may provoke strong emotions in some people. We understand and respect that. We want to make it clear, though, that the book club hosts aren't therapists and the group may not be the best place to share unprocessed trauma. Please try to keep your comments on the topic of the book.
Let us know any questions or feedback you have!
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
We are maintaining an active list of books for future meetings. Anyone interested should put forth their book recommendations here: [https://forms.gle/XBpYXvL1wKQrNdky7](https://forms.gle/XBpYXvL1wKQrNdky7)
Avery and Gina will provide a short list of your recommendations and post here: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/12nWakBiHFiuZ_QirICqrcXqKaRkQWJv5tvVvNTieOCY/](https://docs.google.com/document/d/12nWakBiHFiuZ_QirICqrcXqKaRkQWJv5tvVvNTieOCY/)
Only in-person votes will be counted.
All Delian Club members are welcome. As with all the Delian Club's events, this is for autistic adults only.
Go to the door on William Street that is about half way down the church and faces the opposite side of the road directly. It has a tiny green and red flashing light to the right of it. Proceed inward and turn right. We will be meeting in the Mayflower Room. The door locks at 7:05, so please arrive promptly.

Ticket prices on our website reflect all-in pricing for purchases made online or by phone. This means the price you see includes the ticket price plus MUTO’s ticket processing fee. Tickets may be purchased with no included fees in person at The Ark during box office hours.
Common Nation of Sorrow, Rachel Baiman’s 2023 LP, was called one of “The Best Albums of the Year (So Far)” by The Boston Globe, awarded 4 stars from American Songwriter, and deemed a “Tremendously and remarkable record” by The Amp.
Raised in Chicago, Baiman made her way to Nashville at 18 with the dream of being a professional fiddle player and has since released two solo records and an EP, alongside session and side-person work with Kacey Musgraves, Kevin Morby, and Molly Tuttle among many others. As a songwriter, she has garnered a reputation for her specific brand of political and personal lyricism, which Vice’s Noisey described as ‘Flipping off Authority one note at a time”.
Philip Bowen is an Appalachian born singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose music is rooted in folk tradition, regional storytelling, and lived experience. Raised in West Virginia, Bowen began playing fiddle at age four and developed a distinctive sound that blends Appalachian textures with modern Americana songwriting.
He has built a substantial and engaged audience through touring and online performance, reaching over 1.5 million followers across platforms. His early momentum included a win at TikTok’s Greatest Talent competition and appearances at key rooms and stages including The Bluebird Cafe, 3rd and Lindsley, NPR’s Mountain Stage, Americanafest, and an official showcase at Folk Alliance International.
